Pumped Up

 Killer Fashion Sense

Hedra Carlson was just looking for a place to call home.  Luckily she found Allie, a Single White Female, seeking to share her Manhattan apartment with same. Once "Hedy" moves in the fun really starts.  To get on Allie's good side, she brings home a puppy which she later "allows" to die when she and Allie have a falling out cuz Hedy's got some major identity issues.  Hedy goes on a rampage, raging and killing willy nilly, the most memorable of these is when she kills Allie's boyfriend with the heel of her stiletto.  Classy!

August's installment included a 4 oz./280 yd. skein of DBS Dirty Blonde Superwash DK in the "Killer Fashion Sense" colorway, a homemade cafe-mocha nom, an adorable smoky topaz stitch marker from Toluca Knit Jewelry.

The colorway was inspired by Allie's 90s era New York City business-savvy wardrobe of neutral tones, which Hedra so desperately tried to emulate.  However, when the brown, grays and tan mixed together in the skein, it looks more like metals than tweed and linen, which makes this particular Mean Girl very happy.  I love me some bronze, pewter & gold.
Also included in the installment is an exclusive original pattern from Ars Velleris Designs.

Stiletto is an easy slipped stitch sock pattern which beautifully shows off this glorious heavier-weight yarn.  Elizabeth "Zardra" Borchardt is a new and promising designer, and a fellow Mean Girl, and has outdone herself with this gorgeous design!

Fatal Flaw

Bunny Boiler

Stalker doesn't even begin to describe Mean Girl #5:  Alexandra "Alex" Forrest.  In "Fatal Attraction" she took obsession to new, incredible heights.  She ambushed her prey in parking garages, at his office and in his home.  She poured acid on his car, kidnapped his daughter and yes, even boiled the family pet.  She is the poster child for the deranged, and back in the 80s she scared the bejeebers out of every man with a pulse.  That'll learn them to cheat!

Good girl!

The Yarn

"Bunny Boiler" is inspired by the silk peignoir Alex wears when she's at her most seductive, convincing self.  The colorway is in subtle shades of peach and apricot on the Dizzy Blonde Studios Dizzy Blonde Superwash sock base.  That's 115 g./560 yds. of pure unadulterated crazy!

The Loot!

We also included a homemade mango-flavored nom lollipop, a hand-made crystal stitch marker (not shown) and an adorable bunny-themed project bag from Jelby.

It's more than yarn. It's an adventure!

Membership will soon open for  a new year of the Mean Girls' Yarn Club.

Please read carefully as there have been a few changes from last year. Minor ones, but we like to keep you on your toes.

Sign-ups open sometime on September 3, 2014 here at Mean Girls Yarn Club blog. This should give you plenty of time to exercise your clicky finger.  Space is limited so sign up early to ensure your spot.
  • The cost: $165 for domestic; $180 for international for the entire year.
  • There are 2 payment options:  either in 1 lump sum, or in three equal installments. This includes first-class shipping for both domestic and international members.
  • First shipment goes out in November, 2014. Shipments will go out every other month for 1 year.
  • For those members who choose the payment plan, members will make their initial payment when they sign up, and then be billed the final payments. Please note, these payments are 4 months apart.
  • In the last 4 episodes we have included at least one exclusive knit pattern as part of an installment. This seems to appease the members so I don't see the reason to stop. These are delivered digitally, either through Ravelry or, lacking that, through email.    Please make sure that I have both your Ravelry ID and your email address on file.
The rules remain pretty much the same as last year so you repeat offenders errr....members should know them by heart. However, I'll repeat them here for the newbies:

The Rules.
  • The colorways are to be club exclusives. It’s all super secret until you get your installment. It will remain super secret for 2 weeks after the shipments are sent. Please, no spoilers!
  • If members choosing the payment plan become delinquent in payment, their membership shall be forfeit if their account becomes 30-days past due, and the remainder of their membership will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.
  • If you opt for the payment plan, and find you need to cancel your membership, feel free to notify me privately. I will not bite your head off…well, maybe just a nibble.
  • It is the member’s responsibility to notify me if their desired mailing and/or email address differs from the one listed in Paypal. It is also the member’s responsibility to notify me in a timely manner if their address changes. If I wanted to I could read your minds, but I prefer to use my evil powers for, well…evil.
  • IF for whatever lame reason, you are displeased with your yarn, (and we don’t see why you would be. This is the MGYC, it’s implied that you get what you get and you like it) anyhow… if for some reason you and your colorway aren’t getting along, just follow these simple rules…
  1. First and foremost…NO WHINGING!
  2. Email La and in 50 words or less to inform me of your decision.
  3. I'll put the word out to your fellow members that there’s an unloved, neglected, ABUSED skein of MGYC yarn out there in need of a good home.
  4. We’ll put the abandoner/adopter in touch with each other, and you all can iron out all the payment/shipping details to your little black hearts’ content.
  5. If, in the unlikely event that no one wants your castoff, you can release it into the wild in any manner your dark little hearts desire, but only after 6 months.
  6. If all else fails, see rule #1.
So, mark your calendars for September, bookmark this webpage, subscribe to this blog, go join the Ravelry Group and get your clicky finger into shape!

And The Cradle Will Rock...

Cradle Robber

Mrs. Mott, aka Peyton Flanders, IS The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.  Desperate from grief and bent on revenge on the woman who, in her mind, caused her husband's death and the loss of her unborn child, she becomes nanny to the baby of that very woman, wreaking her vengeance as she does, and damn, if she doesn't do it with wicked cunning and underhanded flair!   Oh!  And she knits!  A true Mean Girl if ever I saw one, thus earning her a spot as the inspiration for this installment.

The Loot

First up, there's a beautiful hand-crafted crystal stitch marker from Toluca Knit Jewelry and Fine Yarn, add a hand-made baby bottle-shaped breast milk errr....Bavarian Cream-flavored lolly, and Dizzy Blonde Studios Dizzy Blonde Superwash 2-ply Light Fingering is the base of this generous 115 g/4 oz 512 m/560 yd. skein dyed up in periwinkle and lavender.

Finally, an exclusive pattern from Jennifer Moraca Designs:  The Cradle Will Rock Shawlette.  This small shawl is designed with a busy new mom in mind, but it makes a fun and interesting and a lovely accessory for anyone.

And, if for some reason you're so mean you want other pattern options, here's some more.

eenee MEANIE minee Ho...

It is usually now, when the last 2 installment of the current episode are in my sights that I begin scheming up the next Episode's theme.  However, I think it's high-time you all started pulling your weight around here. So, I've created this little handy-dandy poll for you all to weigh in on.

If you so desire, feel free to defend your answer in the comments.  (Doesn't mean I'll read them, but feel free anyway)

POLL REMOVED BECAUSE OF SITE DUMBASSERY

Suffice it to say, you've voted; I noted...and will do my own thing anyway!

All Fired Up

One Hot Mess!

Lila Tourney turned out to be the Big Bad in Season 2 of Dexter.  In a nutshell, she befriends our (anti-) hero, becomes his NA sponsor, seduces him, and then, when he starts to pull away (cuz she's friggin bonkers), she frames one of his best friends for rape and then murders another one, hoping to draw him back to her.

Can't blame a girl for trying, now can you?  Her weapon of choice?  Fire.  That's so hot!

and MGYC Episode V:  Revenge of the Hoar, installment 3 is all about what's hot.

From the yarn, a generous 560 yard/115 g. skein of Dizzy Blonde Studios Dizzy Blonde Superwash Merino dyed in flaming crimson, sizzling vermilion and smouldering orchid...

...to the loot, which includes a beautiful garnet stitch marker from Toluca Knit Jewelry, a must-have Stitch Saver(TM) from 5ElementKnitr, and 2 large cinnamon bears dipped in rich yummy chocolate.

DementHOAR

 Siriusly Whacked!

As twisted as she is beautiful, we would be completely remiss in our duties as HMGIC if we didn't include Bellatrix Lestrange in this episode of psych hoars.  Never fear, she was the inspiration for the latest installment.  Who could ask for a more shining example of everything we hold dear? Her obsessive dedication and focussed devotion to rid the world of mudbloods and blood traitors no matter what makes her ideally suited.

The yarn is an oh-so-soft and squishy 100g/256m of Dizzy Blonde Studios Superwash DK base shifts from shades of bright acid green, to deep"Avada Cadavra" green to the deepest "Dark Mark" black.

The nom is a delicious chocolate frog, a welcomed treat to wizards worldwide.  And what mean girl doesn't like a little bling in the string?  The gorgeous deep emerald crystal stitch marker is from Toluca Knit Jewelry

This month's installment included an original pattern design by our veteran designer and Mean Girl,  Aimee of Fairie Knits.  Knockturn is a fingerless mitt pattern that can convert to arm warmers in the flick of a wand...errr...thumb.  Perfect for the wizarding mean girl in us all!

However, if you're not in the mood to cast on these mitts quite yet (and you'd be crazy not to), we have some...
